KUD Oštrc

Croatian Folklore Ensemble Oštrc was established 27 years ago in Rude, small village 5 kilometers away from Samobor.

The results of the Group’s performing have played an important part in the cultural events of the region.

The Group has noticed many international tours and performances in Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Borneo Island in Malaysia, Portugal, Hungary and Sicily. In 1998, the Group had an excellent tour in USA where took part at "Worldfest" – famous folklore event held in Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.

One of the Group's primary goals is the preservation and further development of the Croatian traditional folklore and folk customs. In order to do that, Folk group Oštrc has organized a unique folklore festival since 1985 (with local and international folklore groups) which has been dedicated to their regional cake known as “Rudarske greblica” (Miners cake). This festival has become one inevitable part of cultural events in the Zagreb region.

The Group also recorded its first CD in 2000. It contains 22 folk songs mostly from northwest part of Croatia.

Croatian Folk Group Oštrc consists of 70 members divided in four divisions: two folk groups and two tamburitza orchestras (the tamburitza is the most popular and most common national instrument of the Croatian people).
